Potassium Methoxide Powder (CH₃OK) is a white to pale yellow solid with strong alkalinity and high corrosivity. It is highly hygroscopic and reacts vigorously with moisture or water, releasing heat and Hydrogen gas, and must therefore be stored in tightly sealed containers in a dry environment. Its density is approximately 1.0–1.1 g/cm³, and its melting point ranges from 185–190 °C. Anhydrous Potassium Methoxide is fully soluble in water and Methanol, forming a homogeneous solution, but addition of water or other solvents should be done with caution.

Potassium Methoxide powder serves as a strong catalyst and demethylation/methoxylation agent in organic synthesis, biodiesel production, and the preparation of methyl ethers, aromatic, and heterocyclic compounds. It is also used in Claisen, Aldol, and other base-catalyzed reactions. Compared to the solution, the powder form is preferred for processes requiring precise dosing, long-term storage, and minimal solvent use, while the solution form is ideal for fast reactions, direct use, and easy dissolution in methanol.

In industrial production, high-purity Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic Potash) reacts with anhydrous Methanol to form Potassium Methoxide. The resulting solution is then dried under controlled heat or industrial vacuum to yield the solid powder, which is milled and sieved to uniform particle size and packed in moisture- and air-resistant containers.

Potassium Methoxide powder is highly corrosive and moisture-sensitive. Proper personal protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and protective clothing must be used during handling. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water. The product should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat, flames, and oxidizing agents.
